PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Dec.27,2025) — Cambodia and Thailand have reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes peacefully, respecting international boundaries and international law, and maintaining stability along their shared border.

The pledge was made during the third Special General Border Committee meeting at the Prum-Ban Pak Kard International Point of Entry between Cambodia’s Pailin province and Thailand’s Chanthaburi province.

The meeting was co-chaired by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Tea Seiha and Thailand’s Defense Minister Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanit. Representatives from the ASEAN Observer Team attended as observers.

A joint statement emphasized the importance of conducting discussions in an atmosphere of trust, sincerity, good faith, fairness and mutual respect, in line with the U.N. Charter, the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

Officials said these principles aim to pave the way for a new chapter of peace and cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides recalled the ASEAN chair’s statement from the Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on the Cambodia-Thailand situation, held Dec. 22 in Kuala Lumpur.

The statement reaffirmed the full and effective implementation of the July 28 cease-fire agreement, as well as subsequent agreements reached through General Border Committee and Joint Boundary Commission meetings.

Cambodia and Thailand expressed determination to continue dialogue, build on existing agreements and establish sustainable peace along the border, with a focus on confidence-building and restoring normalcy for affected communities.

The two countries agreed to an immediate cease-fire along their shared border, to take effect at noon local time Dec. 27. The cease-fire will initially last 72 hours, following talks between senior military and defense officials.

Thailand also agreed to return 18 Cambodian soldiers in line with the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration signed Oct. 26.
