PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.10, 2025) — Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen on Nov. 10 called for deeper investment and trade cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, emphasizing the importance of vocational training, agro-industrial development, and technology as priority sectors for Japanese investors.

Speaking during a courtesy meeting with Takahashi Fumiaki, president of the Japan-Cambodia Association, Samdech Techo praised the association’s active role in strengthening bilateral ties and attracting Japanese businesses to Cambodia. He encouraged Japanese firms to expand their footprint in sectors that align with Cambodia’s national development goals.

Takahashi expressed gratitude for the government’s continued support, noting that 36 Japanese companies are currently on mission in Cambodia, exploring opportunities in agriculture, vocational education, and tech industries.

The meeting comes as Cambodia-Japan bilateral trade reached approximately $1.5 billion in the first nine months of 2025. Cambodian exports to Japan totaled $1.1 billion, led by garments, electronics, and agricultural products, while imports from Japan stood at $400 million, mainly consisting of machinery and vehicles.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to supporting Japanese investors, citing long-standing cooperation and shared interest in human capital development. He also highlighted the new government’s focus on expanding the tech sector and agro-processing as engines of economic growth.
