FUXIAN LAKE, China (Dec.30,2025) — China said it played an active role in mediating the recent conflict along the Cambodia-Thailand border and pledged continued support to help restore relations between the two countries.

At a meeting of foreign ministers from China, Cambodia and Thailand, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Beijing had acted in line with the Global Security Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping.

Wang said Chinese leaders maintained close communication with their counterparts in both Cambodia and Thailand, including multiple phone calls at the foreign minister level and four shuttle visits by a Chinese special envoy.

“The focus of these efforts has been to listen to the views of both sides, accommodate their legitimate concerns, and find a path to resolve differences through dialogue and negotiation,” Wang said.

He welcomed the recent ceasefire agreement reached by the Cambodian and Thai militaries, describing it as the result of joint efforts by all parties. Wang expressed hope that the meeting, held Dec. 28–29 at Fuxian Lake in China’s Yunnan province, would help heal divisions and lead to reconciliation.

“Only this can serve the interests of both the Cambodian and Thai people and reflect the shared aspirations of all relevant parties,” he said.

Wang added that China would continue to promote Cambodia-Thailand relations and stood ready to provide assistance, including ceasefire monitoring, humanitarian aid and demining cooperation. He said China believed relations between the two countries would return to “the right track” soon.

The meeting brought together Wang, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn, and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow. Cambodia and Thailand agreed on measures to consolidate their ceasefire, restore exchanges, rebuild political trust and improve long-term relations.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and cooperating against shared risks, including transboundary crimes such as telecom and online scams.

The trilateral talks underscored what participants called the “Asian way” of resolving disputes through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect, with all sides pledging to advance lasting peace along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
