PHNOM PENH, Jan 8, 2026 (KPT)
— Cambodia welcomed the Trans ASEAN MADANI Convoy on Monday evening as the delegation set out plans to use its regional journey to promote peace, cooperation and tourism across Southeast Asia.

Tourism Minister Huot Hak received convoy leaders Datuk Rahim bin Hj Hashim and Datuk Dr Yaakop bin Sapari at the ministry headquarters, where the delegation reported on their smooth passage from Malaysia to Cambodia. The convoy, comprising more than 200 participants and 48 vehicles from Malaysia, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, is traveling from January 1 to 16 under the banner of people‑to‑people exchanges and regional solidarity.

Organizers said the initiative aims to spread a global message of peace and highlight ASEAN’s potential to become “the most peaceful region in the world.” The program also ties into Malaysia’s Visit Malaysia Year 2026 campaign, launched by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last September.

Minister Hak praised Malaysia’s role in supporting a ceasefire with Thailand and urged the convoy to showcase Cambodia’s stability, connectivity and hospitality. He said the delegation’s visit would help broadcast Cambodia’s tourism and investment opportunities to Malaysian and international audiences, reinforcing the country’s return to normalcy under Prime Minister Hun Manet.
