Cambodia Invites Thailand to Border Talks in October

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Oct.08,2025) — Cambodia has renewed its invitation to Thailand for a regional military meeting aimed at strengthening border cooperation and supporting a ceasefire agreement.

The Regional Border Committee talks between Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Army Area 2 are scheduled for Oct. 15–17 in Oddar Meanchey province, Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense confirmed this week.

A second formal invitation was issued Oct. 7, following an earlier one sent Sept. 30. The meeting follows the First Extraordinary RBC session held in August and aligns with outcomes from the Special General Border Committee meeting.

The Cambodian defense ministry said the dialogue is critical to ensuring “full and effective” implementation of the ceasefire and restoring normal bilateral ties. Officials hope the talks will foster closer military cooperation and help maintain peace and stability along the border.

An earlier round of RBC talks, originally scheduled for Sept. 28–30, was postponed. Ministry spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said the meeting had been deferred to October, though no reason was given.

Cambodia and Thailand have experienced sporadic tensions along their shared border in recent years, often linked to military patrols and disputed demarcation lines. Both sides have emphasized dialogue and coordination as the preferred path forward.
