PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Jan. 3, 2026) — Cambodia said Saturday it will not recognize any changes to its international border imposed by force and announced it will begin holding daily briefings on the post-ceasefire situation along its frontier with Thailand.

Government spokesman Pen Bona accused Thai authorities of violating the December 27 ceasefire by placing shipping containers, installing barbed wire, raising national flags and demolishing Cambodian civilian homes at several sites. He said the actions breached Cambodia’s territorial integrity, bilateral agreements and the United Nations Charter.

Bona said Cambodia remains firm in defending its border as established by the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission and recognized under international law, the principle of uti possidetis juris, Franco–Siamese treaties, official maps and demarcation records, as well as other agreements reached between the two countries.
Beginning Sunday, the government will hold a single daily press briefing at 11 a.m. to update the public and the international community on developments along the border, Bona said.

Separately, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Thailand of continuing an illegal occupation of Cambodian territory despite the truce, alleging serious violations of international law and bilateral treaties.

The ministry said Thai forces forcibly entered and maintained control over areas inside Cambodia during military operations from Dec. 7 to 27, spanning Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces.

Phnom Penh has lodged a formal protest demanding Thailand cease all hostile activities, withdraw troops and equipment, respect the mandate of the Joint Boundary Commissions and comply with ceasefire and peace agreements.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to resolving border disputes peacefully and in accordance with international law.
