Cambodian PM Vows to Defend Sovereignty, Mobilize Aid for Border-Affected Civilians

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Jan. 11, 2026) — Prime Minister Hun Manet on Saturday reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to defending national sovereignty through diplomatic and legal means, while accelerating efforts to assist civilians affected by the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict.

In a national address Saturday night, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed sympathy for families facing hardship, particularly those in border areas directly impacted by the fighting. He said Cambodia remains committed to a peaceful resolution in line with the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration of Oct. 26, 2025, and the Joint Statement of Dec. 27, 2025.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said the government is mobilizing resources in cooperation with friendly nations, international organizations and the private sector to deliver humanitarian relief and implement short-term assistance as well as longer-term recovery plans.

“The Royal Government is implementing all necessary diplomatic and international legal measures to protect Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.

The prime minister reassured citizens, especially those in border communities, that the government is monitoring the situation closely and taking firm action to safeguard national interests while ensuring the safety and livelihoods of affected families.

The address underscored Cambodia’s focus on peace, stability and humanitarian recovery as the country works to resolve the border situation.
