Cambodia’s Foreign Minister Holds Bilateral Talks at ASEAN Retreat

PHNOM PENH, Jan 29, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn held a series of bilateral meetings with regional counterparts on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat on Cebu Island in the Philippines, officials said.
In a pull-aside meeting with Malaysia’s Foreign Minister, Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, Cambodia expressed appreciation for Kuala Lumpur’s role in facilitating a ceasefire and supporting peaceful resolution of border tensions with Thailand.
Phnom Penh also congratulated Malaysia on what it called successful outcomes during its ASEAN chairmanship in 2025, noting contributions to regional stability and growth.
Prak Sokhonn also met Vietnam’s Foreign Minister, Le Hoai Trung, reaffirming the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
The talks reviewed progress from the 21st Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, held in Siem Reap last December, which both sides described as a roadmap for strengthening ties.

In a separate meeting, Prak Sokhonn held cordial talks with Brunei’s Second Foreign Minister, Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof.
The two ministers exchanged warm regards, pledged to deepen cooperation, and discussed preparations for Prak Sokhonn’s official visit to Brunei in the first half of this year.
The Cambodian foreign minister joined his ASEAN counterparts throughout the retreat in Cebu.
