PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (Nov.10, 2025) — Cambodia and Thailand continued discussions on a joint humanitarian demining initiative along their shared border, officials confirmed Monday.

Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, spokeswoman for Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense, said the Cambodian Mine Action Centre and the Thailand Mine Action Center held a video conference at 10:30 a.m. to review progress on a pilot demining site.

The targeted area is located in O Bei Chorn Commune, O Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province, opposite Nonmak Moon Commune, Khok Song District, Sa Kaeo Province in Thailand.

The meeting followed decisions made during the Joint Coordinating Task Force session on Oct. 31, which outlined priorities for bilateral demining cooperation.

Maly said all operations would follow the Standard Operating Procedures and principles agreed by the task force, emphasizing that fieldwork would “strictly adhere to the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity” and be conducted “in the spirit of mutual respect.”

The Ministry of National Defense said the initiative reflects both governments’ efforts to promote peace and safety along the border and build confidence following recent agreements under the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration on Peace, Cooperation and Prosperity.
